Welcome to Home-Start Corby
Home-Start Corby is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under the age of 5. Allowing for special circumstances to extend this age in line with project agreements.
Volunteers offer regular visits, befriending and practical help to families in their own homes, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.
Because childhood can’t wait’.
We work in partnership with multiple agencies across the borough, such as Citizen Advice Bureau, Corby Library, Willow Place, Safer Corby Team among many others. This ensures that volunteers can access support for children and families quickly, giving families choice and access to a wide range of services that may benefit their children and build on their strengths as a family.
*These partnerships are embedded within Corby, and we welcome new partners where relevant*
“Working with the Home-Start team has been and is a really positive experience and it fits with our Community Plan. We value the important work the team does, has done and will continue to do in our community of Kingswood and Hazel Leys in Corby. We understand that working together in our community has a much more positive and greater impact.” George Hill, Chairperson, KHL Big Local

What do Home-Start volunteers do?
- Home-Start volunteers aim to build the confidence and independence of a family by:
- Offering support, friendship and practical help.
- Committing to weekly support – via home visiting, walk and talk, telephone or video link with a family as restrictions allow.
- Protecting and respecting the dignity and identity of each individual.
- Reassuring families that difficulties in bringing up children are not unusual.
- Emphasizing the positive aspects of family life.
- Developing a relationship with the family in which time can be shared and an understanding developed, providing a regular, reliable presence in that family.
- Encouraging families to widen their network of relationships and to effectively use the support and services available in the community.
- Drawing on their own experience of parenting to encourage parents’ strengths and emotional well-being for the ultimate benefit of their children.
What is the time commitment?
In addition to weekly family contact (approx. 1.5 – 2 hours per week)
- Attending the initial course of preparation
- Attending supervision sessions with the Coordinator, according to Home-Start guidance, every 8 weeks
- Attending ongoing training sessions
- A commitment of 1 year to the charity (minimum)
