Support from Home-Start
“My family situation was treated sensitively and with utmost confidentiality, I was signposted to services” Family, Home-Start Corby.
At Home-Start Corby, we understand the early years of parenting can be challenging, but very rewarding – our focus is to build on strengths of what is already happening in family life, to match with volunteers who know the community well and can signpost to services that could be positive and helpful in widening networks, make new friends and enjoy their children. Many of our volunteers were parents like you and have a lot to offer your family and maybe one day, you may be able to become a Home-Start volunteer, using skills that you have as a parent.
Staff, volunteers and families come together to learn new skills, understand debt fears and finding creative ways to support our children to be strong resilient adults who are confident and able to be proud of their families.
Can we help?
Many parents need help, friendship and support when their children are young.
Some of the services and support that families access include:
- Adult Education
- Groups
- Debt Management
- Emotional Support
- Practical Support
- Days out
- Additional needs
- Healthy Eating
And much more!
If you are a family, and you want a little extra support, please do give us a call – we would be really happy to speak to you. We are very experienced in matching families with volunteers who we think will understand your situation and be able to work with you. Also, please be assured that all support is confidential.
We aim to see each family within two weeks of referral and will match with a volunteer or Family Support Worker soon after.
If you are a referrer, we would encourage you to refer families into our service by the following means:
- Discuss Home-Start with the family – they must agree to receive our support.
- Establish that the family has at least one child under five.
- Contact your local Home-Start and speak to one of the coordinators.
- Complete a referral form
We are happy to come to your organisation to share information about the support that we offer and to answer any questions.
Home-Start Corby groups
From time to time we offer Home-Start groups, alongside our informative sessions. We will inform you and keep you up to date when these are available.
In the meantime There are many fantastic groups that can be accessed at the Children’s Centres across Corby or at Corby Library.
Craft Group
We offer a craft group to parents who would like to meet other parents. You are welcome to bring along a project that you are already doing or you can take up a new project and learn new skills.
The craft group runs for an hour each week – it is the chance for a cup of tea and to make new friends.
This is an adult only group, so unfortunately, would be unable to accommodate children.
If you are interested in joining please contact the Home-Start office for more information.
Testimonials
Both our journeys started with Homestart for different reasons but both needing support in different ways. Beth, new to retirement wanting to help and support people whilst gaining the company of others. Jessica, hitting rock bottom due to bad health conditions and a relationship breakdown with two small children.
Now adopted as part of our family – we would
be lost without her.
I don’t feel alone, and I don’t feel frightened because I know I have help.
Well, all I can say is that it has been life changing, all for the better. I was going through hell and came to a crossroads in my life and my volunteer was there to help us go in the right direction.
I honestly believe without Home-Start and mostly my volunteer by my side, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Thank you.
We got matched together three years ago and it was the perfect fit. Any and every issue or struggle, big or small, we have each others support, advice and shoulder to cry on. Homestart have so many tools that help build you up gaining self esteem, confidence, coping mechanisms and many more. They run courses and workshops where you can learn new skills and build your CV.
I’m so grateful for the support from Home-Start. I never would have pushed myself to do something like the family fitness and sometimes all it takes is a few words of encouragement to make a massive difference. Problem solving inside and outside the home is much easier with a few ideas from the outside.
I could not have got through this last year without them.
She’s been there when needed and gone the extra mile.
