“I joined Home-Start Corby in Autumn 2017 for the knitting group, just to give me a little social interaction and independence away from the family. During this time I was asked if I would consider volunteering.
I have had the opportunity to work with several families now. Their needs have ranged from having no support network and low self-esteem to needing help with everyday tasks.
It has been a pleasure to watch them flourish and grow in confidence, tackling things they didn’t think they were capable of. Alongside them we have shared gardening, DIY home decorating, soft furnishings, homework with the children. I have introduced them to children centres, to make new friends and have gone to parks or to see the farm animals.
I am now the Volunteer Representative and support in all of the strengths and challenges of volunteering. It is an exciting role, which reassures volunteers that Home-Start Corby is a fun and great organisation to volunteer for”
